The news of the Stagefright exploit appears to have precipitated a much needed update commitment from Google and various Android OEMs. After Samsung announced its new Android security update process and Google revealed the details of a new Nexus update policy, LG is following suit and promising similar monthly security patch updates.

Although it hasn't been officially announced by the company, the news comes from a couple of reliable sources. First, speaking at the security conference Black Hat 2015, Googler Adrian Ludwig revealed that LG has made the same commitment to send the monthly security patches that it receives from Google to end users.

Originally released for desktop computers in the 1990s, and under the longer title of Logical Journey of the Zoombinis, Zoombinis has now been released onto Google Play, for tablets (though I did have the option to purchase the game from my 2014 Moto X).

In this game, the  blueberry-like Zoombinis are in search for a new home as they're no longer safe in their current one, having come under threat and imprisonment by the evil Bloats. Players will be tasked with the mission of getting them there, and will new required to solve the dozen puzzles that will prove prohibitive to that end. For example, hungry trolls will obstruct the path, and will only move when their hunger is sated by pizza made exactly to their liking.

With Vainglory having been out now for a few weeks, we swung by the Twitch booth to meet up with Super Evil Megacorp, the developers behind the mobile MOBA game Vainglory. We sat down to talk with them to see how the game has been doing since its launch onto Android, and what future plans they may have for Vainglory in general.

Since the release of Vainglory onto Android, the game sees around 1 million players on average playing this game, with 10% of those players also watching professional eSport Vainglory matches on Twitch. From the sounds of things, the eSports scene for Vainglory is starting to pick up, with one team earlier this week becoming the first sponsored Vainglory team. They were signed by Mobcrush, who is now the first official sponsor for a Vainglory team. We don't have the details regarding that sponsorship since they are being kept private which isn't unusual at all.

We have always expected mobile eSports to pick up, and now it looks like it finally is happening. Vainglory recently had a tournament in Korea where they flew in a bunch of pro players for all over the world which was aired on Twitch as well. All of this eSports information leads us into one thing Super Evil Megacorp is looking into as a possible future project for Vainglory, and that is a PC client for spectating.

The developers are considering making a full client for PC for spectating matches. This would obviously be used for eSports broadcasting but technically anyone could use it to watch matches on their PC. The client won't be for anything related to actually playing the game, as they want to keep Vainglory a pure mobile MOBA. Voice chat is also something Super Evil Megacorp is considering adding to Vainglory, although interestingly enough players have been giving them mixed feedback on the idea.

One of the big feedbacks they've had from players was that the game feels very slow in regards to the movement speed, but this is mostly because of the camera zoom. The developers are looking into improving that. Their plan overall is to continue updating the game, improving it, with updates every 4/5 weeks. Unfortunately they wouldn't go into any deeper details about future updates outside of the above mentioned features.

Another long design test appears to be drawing to a close for Google. After apparently beginning a wider rollout for the new mobile search UI (in testing since April), it seems that Google is making the revised image results UI final too.

This layout has been popping up since at least May, with a brighter, more crisp interface that offers more iconography, refined typography, and - yes - a section for related images.

It would appear that LMY48I (which has a fix for Stagefright) is wreaking havoc on Nexus 6 phones with T-Mobile USA SIM cards. The phone simply refuses to connect to the cellular network, and thus calls and text messages are out the window. This issue seems to mainly be affecting people who upgraded from LYZ28E (T-Mobile USA's unique build with Wi-Fi calling) to LMY48I by flashing factory images. This likely has to do with the fact that the Wi-Fi calling-enabled radio firmware used in the LYZ28E build is quite a bit different than the "standard" radio firmware used in the more mainstream LMY47Z build.

HBO Now finally came to Android recently after a few months of Apple exclusivity, but it lacked Chromecast support. That's not a problem anymore as of the new v1.1 update. HBO Now can beam video direct to the Chromecast, and there are a few other tweaks too.

If there's one thing we've learned from Google's various camera and photo products lately, it's that the company is focusing on using some pretty crazy technology to make your image-capture and sharing experience more automagical. ASUS is riding high on ZenFone Fever, and at an event in India called - wait for it - Zenfestival, the company announced a slew of new ZenFone models. You are probably familiar with the issues surrounding the Snapdragon 810 by now, but a new chip is right around the corner that could get Qualcomm back on track. I speak of course of the fabled Snapdragon 820 (MSM8996). Details of this chip have allegedly been leaked in China, and while we can't know for sure that they're accurate, the slides sure look legit.

Earlier today, Google released updated factory images for all of its supported Nexus devices to patch up some reasonably serious vulnerabilities in a core Android library called Stagefright. While we await the stream of OTAs that are sure to follow, there's a fresh code drop to the Android Open Source Project containing security-related patches. Don't expect to see any new features or user-facing changes, this one is all about closing loopholes.

Google announced the Stagefright vulnerability fix would start rolling out as an OTA today, but it has also added new factory images to the Nexus developer pages. That means bootloader unlocked Nexus phones and tablets can flash the new build immediately, even if your device is running some wacky ROM.

All the new images have the same build number (LMY48I), which is what Sprint listed as the Stagefright fix for the Nexus 5 and 6 this morning.
